Traffic surveys

A traffic survey report is intended to provide an overview of the current and potential future volumes and composition of traffic, loading frequencies, and capacities of junctions. The first step in any traffic survey is measuring current traffic, which allows the possibility to identify existing traffic fluctuations at and between junctions. Then the structure of the traffic (seasonal, transit, recreational) is determined, as well as the purpose, origins, and destinations of the journeys. A traffic forecast is a part of a traffic survey report and is prepared in consideration of any spatial plans in the area, traffic directions connecting the surrounding areas, and potential developments of new streets under a detailed spatial plan or comprehensive plan. A reliable traffic forecast will also take public transport into account, as the latter can significantly affect the outcome of the forecast.
